Heritage Ambassadors

Who We Are & What We Do
This rural Angus cottage at Netherton, near Aberlemno, was the home of the Davidson family before they emigrated to America. It was there that their sons would make history by co-founding Harley-Davidson motorcycles in 1903.
Now a registered Scottish charity (SC052174), this restored 1850s cottage operates as a community-owned living history site. It honours the enduring legacy of Scottish emigrants, who were renowned globally as the practical innovators, educators, and engineers of the modern world. By preserving the home of Sandy Davidson—a wright for a local smiddy before his family emigrated—the site stands as a direct bridge between traditional Angus craftsmanship and global industrial history. Today, this unique link draws motorcycle enthusiasts, Clan Davidson members, and history lovers from every corner of the globe.
The Opportunity
We are seeking Volunteer Heritage Ambassadors of all backgrounds and experience levels to help us develop this unique site into a world-class visitor attraction. You do not need to be a mechanic or a historian; we simply look for individuals who are:
• Welcoming & Reliable: Enjoy engaging with diverse visitors and can commit to regular or flexible hours.
• Curious & Proud: Eager to learn the site's history (training provided) and passionate about promoting local Scottish heritage.
Key Volunteer Roles

• Site Preservation & Curation: Maintaining the authenticity of the 1850s cottage, caring for artifacts, and contributing ideas to enhance the visitor experience.
• Grounds & Facilities: Assisting with gardening and general site maintenance to keep the cottage and its surroundings pristine.
• Retail & Operations: Handling merchandise sales to generate vital funds for the charity.
• Marketing & Digital Media: Creating content for social media (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook) to expand our global digital reach.
