Costume & Materials Assistant

LOOP Theatre is a Scottish charity that provides people with additional support needs the opportunity to learn, create and perform together. We connect with and invest in people, enabling their talents to be shared with the wider artistic community through our weekly drama and theatre sessions.
We are a small, friendly team behind the scenes and are looking for volunteers to support our costume and creative resources team. This role is ideal for anyone with an interest in theatre, fashion, sewing, creativity or environmental sustainability who would like to contribute to an inclusive community organisation.
Volunteer tasks may include:
• Organising and maintaining costumes for workshops, performances and events
• Sourcing costumes and accessories through donations, charity shops and local networks
• Sewing, repairing and adapting costumes to extend their use
• Supporting the environmental sustainability of costumes and props through re-use, recycling and creative upcycling
No previous experience is required, although an interest in sewing, costume design, theatre or sustainable practices would be beneficial. Training and support will be provided, and we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and levels of experience.
Support for Volunteers
All volunteers receive a full induction and ongoing support from the LOOP Theatre team. A named member of staff will provide guidance, supervision and regular check-ins to help you settle into the role and build your confidence. We are committed to creating a positive, accessible and enjoyable volunteering experience and will work with you to ensure the role suits your interests, skills and availability.
Time Commitment
This is a flexible role, typically involving around 3–4 hours per week, mainly during weekday hours. There may also be occasional opportunities to support Saturday performances, events and special activities throughout the year, depending on your availability and interests. We ask volunteers to commit for at least six months where possible to help provide continuity and enable volunteers to get the most from their experience.
We are committed to building a volunteer team which reflects our community, if you're from a background which is often under-represented in volunteering we'd especially love to hear from you!
We have several other volunteer roles available which are either community facing or behind the scenes, which you will be able to find on Volunteer Glasgow's portal.
If you are interested, please click the ‘Apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will be contacted by the coordinator by email or phone. If you don’t hear back within 5 working days, please contact the organisation using the provided details. Check your junk/spam folder for responses.
