Social Volunteers

And it’s not all about cups of tea (though we do love a good cuppa and biscuit!). You could go to the cinema, take walks in nature, or visit interesting places. It’s up to you and your new friend to decide what you’d like to do. This one-to-one befriending is a great way to make someone feel like they matter, lessen feelings of loneliness, and have someone to listen to them.
Befriending doesn’t have to be long-term either, you could encourage someone to take those first steps of joining a group, maybe go along with them till they felt confident enough to go alone. You might have a special skill you could share, like being computer savvy, and show someone how to order groceries online, or video call family or friends, meaning they can stay connected and be more independent. Whether you can spare a little time or a lot, your presence will make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
