Companion Volunteer

Are you a great listener who enjoys connecting with others?

Our highly valued Companion Volunteer role focuses on supporting individuals nearing the end of their lives and their families during a challenging time.

What You’ll Do:


-Offer companionship, emotional support, and a listening ear.


-Help loved ones by giving them short breaks.


-Drive clients to medical appointments or short outings.

No nursing or counselling is required for this role - just a kind heart and a willingness to help.


Experience required

We’re looking for someone who is:

-Friendly and a good listener

-Patient, empathetic, and emotionally stable


-Able to build good connections and maintain confidentiality


-Reliable, with a commitment to 3 hours a week


-Flexible and respectful of individual needs and differences


-Open to learning and comfortable with the sensitive nature of the role


Travel details

This opportunity is available in various areas, including Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, and Dunfermline.

When matching you with someone, we will consider your ability to travel within your local community and your availability. You are not required to volunteer across all the areas mentioned.

Travel expenses

We reimburse reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, including travel costs for using your own vehicle or public transport. Expenses are processed monthly and paid directly to you as a volunteer.

Support
Training details

Excellent, ongoing support and relevant training is provided to all volunteers wishing to apply. We provide one full day training and induction session that covers all of the information relevant to the role.

Restrictions

Minimum age: 18

Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
