Community Use - Sporting Memories Volunteer

Would you like to make a difference in the lives of older people in Inverkeithing?

Community Use Fife are looking for volunteers to support a new weekly Sporting Memories Club. They welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and abilities, sports fans or not, to help run sessions for members, from making teas and coffees to creating quizzes.

Sessions are weekly, and volunteers can be club facilitators or session supporters helping someone to lead the club. Their volunteers love talking about their favourite teams, sporting greats or special sporting moments and engaging members to share their stories.

You’ll volunteer as part of a small team – an opportunity to meet and get to know new people.

As a volunteer you can:
• Make new friends
• Make a positive difference to our members
• Enjoy inclusive activities and good humour
• Gain insights into engaging with older people
• Be part of a nationwide group of like-minded individuals

Experience required

Volunteering with them is an opportunity to engage with people of all ages and backgrounds, especially older people – many of whom will be living with a condition such as dementia or low mood.

Volunteers learn new and unique skills, through attending training sessions and while volunteering.

The volunteer will be expected to:
• Behave in a respectful manner
• Be approachable, friendly and encouraging
• Have good communication skills
• Display patience and good listening skills
• Have an ability to be discreet and be able to maintain confidentiality
• Treat people with sensitivity and respect
• Be able to use their own initiative - but know when to ask for help when required
• Be open to taking directions
