Driver for St Margaret of Scotland Hospice

Volunteer Driver – Day Hospice Support
Location: St Margaret of Scotland Hospice, Clydebank
Time Commitment: Thursdays – Morning and Afternoon

About the Role:
We are seeking a caring and reliable Volunteer Driver to support our Day Hospice service every Thursday. Your role will help patients attend our Hospice for vital care, companionship, and therapeutic activities, making a real difference to their well-being.

Key Responsibilities:


Arrive at St Margaret of Scotland Hospice by 9:30 am.


Drive the Hospice mini bus to patients’ homes to collect them.


Ensure all patients are safely dropped off at the Hospice by 11:00am.


Return to the Hospice at 3:00pm to collect patients.


Drive patients back to their homes and return the mini bus to the Hospice by 4:30pm.


Ensure a caring, patient, and supportive environment during transport.


Adhere to all relevant health and safety and safeguarding procedures.


Driver Schedule:


Thursdays


9:30am – 11:00am (morning collection)


3:00pm – 4:30pm (afternoon drop-off)


Requirements:
• Full, clean driving licence (D1 category preferred or willingness to drive a mini bus).


• Friendly, patient, and respectful attitude toward patients and families.


• Good communication skills.


• Reliability and punctuality.


• Completion of any required training (e.g., MiDAS training if necessary).


• A Disclosure (PVG) check will be required, fully funded by the Hospice.


• Make a meaningful difference in the lives of Hospice patients.


• Join a supportive and welcoming volunteer team.


• Mileage reimbursement if required (to and from the Hospice).


• Training and ongoing support are provided.

Next Steps:
After you apply, our Voluntary Services team will get in touch with you to arrange an informal chat about the role. You’ll then be asked to complete a volunteer application form and provide two references. Following this, we will carry out a Disclosure (PVG) check (at no cost to you) and offer any necessary training (such as MiDAS mini bus driver training, if required). Once everything is complete, we’ll arrange a start date that works for you!

From Glasgow (Central or Queen Street Stations):


Take a train towards Dalmuir or Balloch.


Get off at Clydebank Station or Singer Station.


From Clydebank Station, it’s about a 10–15 minute walk to the Hospice.


From Singer Station: it's around a 10-minute walk.


Both stations are on a direct line from central Glasgow and have frequent services.


By Bus:


Regular buses from Glasgow city centre serve Clydebank town centre. From Clydebank Shopping Centre, it’s a short walk to the Hospice.


By Car:


Use postcode G81 1EG for SatNav.


The Hospice has free on-site parking for visitors and volunteers.
