ESOL Chat Café Volunteer

Overview:
Inclusive Homework Club was founded in 2018 to provide educational support for individuals with learning difficulties and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. In 2022, we expanded our work to include adults , parents, and young people, launching the ESOL & IT Skills for Integration project to support Refugees and Asylum Seekers.

This summer, we’re running a relaxed and welcoming ESOL Chat Café, and we’re looking for friendly volunteers to help make it a success!

About the Chat Café:
The Chat Café is an informal, social space where participants can practise English through conversation, games, and light activities. All levels of English learners are welcome including those with children. There is no formal teaching involved, just lots of supportive chatting, smiling, and connecting!

Volunteer Role:
•Help set up the space (tables, chairs, snacks, drinks)
•Chat with participants in English and help them feel welcome
•Encourage participants to join in games and activity sheets (provided by IHWC)
•Keep the space tidy, wash mugs/spoons as needed, and pack away at the end
•Ensure attendees sign the register
•Help clean up the space afterwards (snacks, drinks, cups, spoons)

What we’re looking for:
•Friendly, approachable people with good English
•Patience and interest in supporting people learning English
•No previous teaching experience required, but it is beneficial

Time Commitment:
Wednesdays from 10am–1pm (volunteer arrival from 9:30am to help set up and help clean up after)

Important Notes:
You do not need to attend every week.
When signing up, you will be asked which weeks you are available, and we ask that you stick to the dates you commit to, as this helps us plan effectively. The Chat Café will run on 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 July and 6, 13 & 20 August.
