Sight Loss Group Supporter

Do you want to give your time to support people affected by sight loss?

We are looking for caring individuals who have a few hours a month to volunteer supporting people affected by sight loss. RNIB are working with Glasgow Libraries to provide local sight loss information and community spaces across the city and would like your help to change lives.

This volunteering opportunity would be on the second Thursday each month, 10.30am-12pm at Baillieston Library.

Our volunteers provide a listening ear, emotional support, information and signposting to other local services. We are there for anyone with a visual impairment - this means the individual with the diagnosis and their family, friends and carers.

Some of the main activities included in the volunteer role would be:
•Setting up, and closing down the service
•Meeting and greeting people, providing a warm and friendly welcome to the RNIB service
•Promoting the service in the local community
•Providing a listening ear and emotional support to anyone accessing the service
•Explaining the resources and services available in Glasgow
•Signposting people to local and national services that may be of help to them
•Making direct referrals to the appropriate support services when required

We encourage individuals with lived experience to apply although this is not necessary for the role. We are looking for volunteers who have an open and friendly manner, are non-judgmental with good communication & listening skills. Most important is a willingness to learn and a desire to support others.

We will train and support you every step of the way in your role! RNIB covers all travel expenses for volunteers.

We will contact you within a week of receiving your application to chat through the opportunity and invite you to an informal interview. Our informal interviews will take place over the phone.

We will ask that you provide references and undergo a PVG background check as part of your role.

If you are interested please click the ‘apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder on your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow at 0141 226 3431.
