Befriending & Community Connector

We are looking for volunteers to support older people become less social isolated, comfortable with activities at home, and confident to participate in the local community. Befriending and Community Connectors will provide companionship and a safe environment for older people to talk about their feelings, thoughts, and concerns. They may accompany older people on outings, such as visits to local shops, cafes, or cultural events. Our volunteers will build older peoples’ confidence and sense of autonomy. This will support the Connect Projects aims of enhancing old people’s quality of life encouraging their connection to the wider Midlothian community. Ongoing support and training will be provided to ensure the safety and develop skills of our volunteers.

Travel details

Volunteers are required for all areas in Midlothian

Travel expenses

We will reimburse expenses you incur in carrying out your role and talk to you in advance about which expenses will be covered for your activities. we can reimburse you for public transport costs or provide you with mileage costs if you use your own car (45p per mile). For our records you will need to provide receipts and ensure that we have your expenses within a month. Expenses are reimbursed monthly to your bank account but we can consider alternative arrangements where necessary.

Support
Training details

All volunteers will be provided with an initial induction/training session. There will be ongoing training opportunities. Support will be provided by the Volunteer Coordinator through one-to-one meetings either over the phone or in person
