The Castlemilk Pantry, run by Ardenglen Housing Association, is a vital community resource and part of the Scottish Pantry Network. It offers dignified, affordable food while helping to reduce waste by distributing surplus items, often supplied via FareShare. Based in the G45 area and with plans to expand, the Pantry plays a key role in supporting local families.

If you’re organised, reliable, and enjoy working with others, our Pantry Warehouse Volunteer role could be perfect for you. This is a hands-on role where you’ll gain practical skills in stock control and teamwork while making a direct impact on your community.

You’ll join a friendly, supportive team dedicated to making food affordable, accessible, and sustainable for local people.

Time Commitment

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help on Mondays between 10 am and 1 pm (around 3 hours per week).

Main Tasks

Receive deliveries and move stock safely into storage areas
Sort, rotate, and replenish shelves (checking dates and quality)
Prepare the pantry before opening (tidying, cleaning, setting up)
Keep the pantry area safe, clean, and well-organised
Work alongside staff and other volunteers as part of a supportive team

Support You’ll Receive

You’ll never be left on your own – all volunteers are supported with a full induction, on-the-job training, and ongoing guidance from the Pantry Co-ordinator and staff team.

Minimum Age

18 (due to insurance and manual handling requirements).

The Pantry Co-ordinator will contact you by email or phone within 5 working days.
You may be invited for an informal chat or short induction meeting to discuss the role and your availability.
If successful, you&rsquo;ll be offered a start date and given details about your first shift.
You&rsquo;ll receive a full induction and on-the-job training before starting tasks.
Ongoing support and supervision will be provided throughout your time as a volunteer.

Friendly and approachable

Reliable and willing to work as part of a team

Physically able to help with stock handling (training provided)

Literate and numerate for basic stock and till duties

No previous experience needed – just enthusiasm and willingness to learn

The Castlemilk Pantry is based in Birgidale Complex, 10 Stravanan Street, Glasgow G45 9LW. It is accessible by local bus routes, and travel expenses will be reimbursed. No 5, 31, 46 and 75 stop on Birgidale Road, less than 1 minute from the Pantry
