Maintenance Volunteer (Museum Buildings)

Help the Scottish Fisheries Museum to maintain the museum buildings and to make them presentable. This is a fantastic opportunity to see behind the scenes at the museum and to play a part in creating memorable experiences for its visitors.

The Scottish Fisheries Museum is looking for an enthusiastic person who will assist the museum staff by helping to maintain the museum buildings and grounds. The museum site includes historic buildings that were used for various fishing-related tasks and businesses, including chandlers, boat-builders, a smokehouse and a whaling company. This role will provide an excellent opportunity to develop skills as well as to learn about this fascinating part of Scottish history.

Volunteers will be part of the friendly team, develop skills and gain experience in a museum. After three months volunteers can ask for a reference. Most importantly we will provide plenty of tea and coffee.

Experience required

-An interest in history

-A degree of physical fitness

-Experience in or a willingness to learn how to complete a variety of maintenance tasks within historic buildings housing museum collections.

-Knowledge of the Scottish fishing industry would be advantageous but not essential.

Depending on the existing knowledge and interests of the volunteer, you may wish to specialise in one aspect of the role. Previous experience is not required as full training and support will be given.
