FEL Scotland is a registered environmental charity focusing on helping communities become more sustainable, resilient and connected. They do this in different ways through dedicated projects which include Active Travel, Climate and Energy.
Within the energy team, they work with people and communities across Forth Valley and Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National park, helping them to save energy, cut costs, and take action on climate change. FEL provide free, friendly energy advice through home visits, phone support, and online channels, helping people make simple changes that reduce their bills and improve their homes. Every household visited receives an easy, personalised energy-saving plan tailored to their needs.
In local communities, they deliver events and workshops that share practical ways to save energy. Through this work, they aim to empower individuals and communities to take control of their energy use, support one another, and create lasting positive change for a more sustainable future.
Energy Champions are community volunteers who use their own lived experience of reducing household energy use and bills to inspire others. Having taken practical steps, such as installing renewable technologies, improving insulation, or changing everyday energy behaviours; Energy Champions support local households and communities by sharing real‑world examples of what is possible.
Working alongside our Energy Advisors, Energy Champions help bring energy advice to life. By acting as relatable case studies, they show householders the tangible benefits of renewable technologies and energy‑efficiency measures, including lower bills, warmer homes and improved wellbeing.
Based within their own communities, Energy Champions are approachable voices who help demystify energy improvements and build confidence among households and communities who may feel unsure, sceptical, or overwhelmed by energy decisions. Their stories help people see that positive change is possible, practical, and achievable.
As an Energy Champion, you will:
•Accompany Energy Advisors on community events, workshops, or open days to share your personal experience as a real‑life case study to build trust and motivation among people
•Talk honestly about the energy challenges you faced, the measures you adopted (such as renewables or energy‑efficiency improvements), and the outcomes you’ve seen, including cost savings, comfort improvements, or reduced energy use
•Help householders and community groups understand renewable and energy‑saving technologies in an accessible, jargon‑free way
•Act as a peer supporter, answering everyday questions from a lived-experience perspective rather than a technical one
•Work closely with the Energy Team, feeding back common concerns, misconceptions, or barriers that households raise
•Help normalise conversations about energy efficiency and renewables within your community, encouraging more people to implement climate-friendly steps
Experience required
You don’t need to be an expert at all. This role is ideal if you:
•Have taken steps to reduce your household energy use or bills (for example through insulation, heating upgrades, renewables or behaviour change)
•Are comfortable sharing your personal experience with others in a supportive and informal way
•Enjoy meeting people and contributing to positive change in your community
•Are interested in sustainability, climate action, or reducing fuel poverty
•Want to help others feel confident making energy improvements
