Role Purpose
To support the delivery of Bookbug sessions that support early literacy, songs, stories, and positive family engagement in a safe and welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Support Bookbug Leader to deliver sessions using approved materials
• Engage children and parents/carers positively
• Set up and clear session spaces
• Promote Bookbug and library services
Skills and Attributes
• Enjoy singing, stories, and working with families
• Confident and enthusiastic
• Reliable and punctual
• Comfortable following structured session guidance
Training details
The volunteer will liaise with the branch manager at their local library, who will guide them through their induction, and will be the first point of contact for any issues, questions, or problems should they arise.

Restrictions
Minimum age: 17
PVG Scheme membership is required
Safeguarding and Child Protection
• Always follow safeguarding procedures
• Understand the role of parents/carers as supervising adults
• Never supervise children without a responsible adult present
• Report concerns or incidents immediately to staff
Experience required
• Enjoy singing, stories, and working with families
• Confident and enthusiastic
• Reliable and punctual
• Comfortable following structured session guidance
