Translator/ Generalist Adviser with 2nd Language

Do you speak Arabic, Farsi, Tamil, or other languages? Make a difference in your community by volunteering with us! We are recruiting interpreters and advisers with a 2nd language to help support our clients. Flexible hours, full training provided, and an opportunity to gain valuable experience.

We are seeing an increased number of clients in our bureau, for whom English isn’t their first language. To help these clients as accurately as possible we need to make sure that we can communicate with each other effectively. Therefore, we are looking to recruit volunteers who can work as interpreters during our client appointments, to make sure that all information is accurately relayed from client to adviser and back again. We are also looking for volunteers with a 2nd language who want to take this a step further and become advisers themselves.

The 2 roles will have different training programmes, but we will support and guide you through this.

Situated in Drumchapel we offer free, confidential and impartial advice and assistance to Glasgow residents with the postcode G1 - G15. Operating since 1963, we have had to constantly change and adapt to meet the ever-increasing needs of our community. In the last few years, we have become multi-channel and can help our clients either face to face, over the phone, by video call, webchat or email. By offering these options of contact to our client we ensure that everyone who seeks advice can access it in a way that suits their circumstances.

In this role, you'll develop new skills, gain more confidence and meet new people. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and your skills can benefit others in your local community.

All we ask in return is a commitment of at least 4 hours per week for translators and 6hrs per week for anyone wishing to be an adviser, a willingness to learn and dedication for a minimum of 12 months.

Once you have applied for this opportunity you will be contacted within 5 working days to discuss this opportunity further.

If you are interested, please click the ‘apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email or phone call. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder on your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out, then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow.
