Community Advocate

Do you have spare time on your hands? Are you looking to put your life experience and skills to good use?

Or maybe you are looking for a new direction and would like to brush up on your skills and confidence?

Do you have two hours a week you could commit to supporting our organisation?

We can offer you a rewarding and meaningful opportunity to make a positive difference in the life of a vulnerable adult while growing your own experience and life skills.

Established more than 25 years, Advocacy North East is a local, rights based, independent advocacy organisation that strengthens the voice of those who are most at risk of exclusion and speaks up for those that might otherwise go unheard.

We are currently looking for volunteer community advocates in all areas of Aberdeenshire. We will give you all the tools you need, including full training, mentoring and support. You will develop your skills and knowledge and support people who are less able, due to incapacity, mental health issues or a disability, to have their voice heard or make informed decisions in issues relating to their health and care.

No formal experience is required but we would expect you to have good communication skills, and an interest in upholding human rights.

In return, you will be a valued member of our small team making a real difference in the community. But don’t just take our word for it, here is what some of our volunteers have had to say:

‘Being a community advocate with ANE enables you to not only help the vulnerable who are struggling but also gives advocates the opportunity to work with a fantastic group of people both within ANE and as clients. It is a role with a clearly defined purpose which leaves you feeling you have clearly given something back to someone in need’

‘Offers a far more challenging volunteering experience than most volunteering opportunities. This is helpful for career development but also for maintaining confidence and skills for those of us who no longer wish to develop a career.’

If you are passionate about social justice, equal opportunities and inclusion then please consider joining our well respected, effective, professional and friendly independent advocacy team. We would love to hear from you.
