Volunteer Driver

North Edinburgh Dementia Care – The Seagrove Centre is a registered charity organisation that provides care and support for people who have been affected directly or indirectly by dementia. We provide a day care service six days a week that is person-centred and specifically tailored to meet the needs of our service users. We utilise a holistic approach to care, covering physical, emotional, and practical needs.
We are overseen by a voluntary board of directors. Our staff are supported by volunteers, who are a key asset to the organisation, bringing a range of skills, expertise, and qualities, which benefits both staff and service users. Volunteering is embedded within the values and culture of NEDC. We are committed to supporting and nurturing our volunteers, to enhance our service provision and contribute to the wellbeing and personal development of our volunteers.
The purpose of this volunteer role is to support the staff in providing transport to and from the centre or on occasional outings. The volunteer will be asked to drive a maximum of three people with a staff escort to and from their homes, the timings of this would be from 10.00am till 11.00am taking them home again between the hours of 2pm till 3pm. Occasional outings to shops and venues with two members and a staff member, to increase member’s experiences. Expectations of the volunteer would be Willingness to abide by NEDC policies and procedures and a Willingness to use support systems.

Experience required

Volunteers will come from wide range of backgrounds and will have many different qualities and skills. Essential qualities for this role are: Own transport, Business Insurance, Clean Full Driving Licence, Honesty, friendliness, patience, helpful, ability to communicate both verbally and non-verbally with our client group, motivation to support people with dementia maintain their skills.

Support
Training details

The volunteer will be given formal support and supervision by the Volunteer Co-ordinator or Manager every eight weeks. Informal support is ongoing from all members of staff. Additionally, the Manager operates an “open door” policy, where any staff or volunteer can come along and ask for time to discuss any issues they feel require attention. Training is by a variety of methods, online via SCIE website, shadowing, in house training sessions and distance learning. This will be discussed at your induction.
