Volunteer CV/Job Search Support Assistant

Overview:
Inclusive Homework Club was founded in 2018 to provide educational support for individuals with learning difficulties and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. In 2022, we expanded our work to include adults, parents, and young people, launching the ESOL & IT Skills for Integration project to support Refugees and Asylum Seekers.

This summer, we’re running drop-in CV support sessions, and we’re looking for friendly volunteers to help make it a success!
We are seeking patient and supportive volunteers to help individuals—particularly Refugees, Asylum Seekers, and those with limited English—develop and improve their CVs and job applications. As a CV Support Assistant, you will offer one-to-one guidance to build participants’ confidence, digital skills, and understanding of the job-seeking process in the UK. Your support will play a vital role in helping individuals overcome barriers to employment.

Volunteer Role:
•CV Creation and Support: Assist participants in creating or updating CVs using word processing software or templates. Support may include translating experiences into relevant job skills, formatting documents, and offering feedback on content.
•Job Search and Applications: Help participants navigate online job platforms (e.g. Indeed, MyJobScotland), create online job profiles, and understand how to complete online job applications. Provide assistance with setting up professional email addresses and checking job notifications.
•Interview Preparation: Provide guidance on preparing for interviews, including discussing common interview questions, appropriate responses, and tips for in-person or online interviews.
•Digital Literacy Support: Support individuals in using computers to complete employment-related tasks such as saving and uploading CVs, emailing employers, and accessing online portals (e.g. Universal Credit, college portals).
•Language and Comprehension Support: Use clear, simple English and translation tools (if needed) to ensure participants understand what’s being asked in job applications and interviews.
•Record Keeping: Maintain a brief weekly log of participants supported, type of support given, and any notable progress.
•Signposting people to where they can access relevant services that we cannot offer

Qualifications:
•Proficient in written and spoken English.
•Comfortable using Microsoft Word and job search websites.
•Patient and empathetic, with a commitment to inclusion and empowerment.
•Able to work with people from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of English.

Time Commitment:
Weekly drop-in sessions on Wednesdays from 10am to 12pm. Volunteers will help set up and pack away laptops (equipment stored in the Inclusive Homework Club office).

Important Notes:
You do not need to attend every week.
When signing up, you will be asked which weeks you are available, and we ask that you stick to the dates you commit to, as this helps us plan effectively. The drop-in sessions will run on 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 July and 6, 13 & 20 August.

Location:
Kinning Park Complex, 43 Cornwall St, Glasgow G41 1BA

Start Date:
Training: 18 June
Volunteering begins: 2 July
