Social Media Team Volunteers

Aberdeen Climate Action (ACA) is seeking social media team volunteers to help with the crucial work of our social media team. Our website and social media provide information on climate change, sustainable living, and relevant events. The purpose of the social media team is to guide the creation of new posts, to unify the organisation’s social media presence.

ACA is a volunteer led organisation, which focuses on educating and prompting action on climate change in the North East of Scotland.

The Social Media Team is responsible for:
• Promoting the climate café each month, including the creation of Facebook events for the cafes.
• Managing the messages to social media accounts.
• Creating graphics and posts about events.
• Making and sharing relevant content, including sustainability articles and ideas.


The team could benefit from the following roles (individual responsibilities will be up for discussion):



  • Climate Cafe Social Media Volunteer: This person will need to attend the Climate Cafe's (1st Tuesday every month), take 30-60 second videos of Speakers, Create content on how to get to the venue, Create content with attendees, Take pictures of Speakers & Attendees -> Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok



  • Social Platforms Media Volunteer: Helps design and create social media content. Helps with posting events, content, etc. -> Canva, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, BlueSky, LinkedIn



  • Campaigns Volunteer: Help design and create a social media campaign to tackle a specific issue e.g. food waste, transport etc.



  • Outreach/Publicity Volunteer: Helps with ideas for social media outreach and tackling media calls, potentially looking into funding opportunities for social media outreach activities/ in touch with externals




You’ll be working alongside a diverse collection of individuals; from students to retirees; lawyers to oil and gas professionals; local Aberdonians to peoples from across the globe.

Travel details

ACA is an Aberdeen based group but has members who join in from afar using video call software. Please be aware that some face-to-face meetings may take place in Aberdeen.

As an organisation with no physical offices, our volunteers tend to work from home, with face-to-face meetings happening occasionally. When you join; you’ll be able to access our shared online platforms and video meeting conferences; which allow us to work as a team no matter where we are.

Support
Training details

Excellent support and relevant guidance is provided to all volunteers. Once the potential volunteer has expressed an interest in volunteering, they will be invited to an informal induction chat. There they will be asked a few questions and be able to ask their own to learn more about the organisation. Expectations will be covered and then they will be introduced to the team lead. Check-ins can also be done.

Frequency & commitment
Flexible times available to assist-all help makes a difference and is greatly appreciated.

Volunteers (aged 16-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
