Volunteer in Cadder Coffee Shop

Please provide a brief description of your charitable purposes
Cadder Coffee Shop is an arm of, Cadder Parish Church (Charity No SC015193) and exists to:
• Provide a welcoming, affordable community coffee shop in Bishopbriggs.
• Support local people by offering a safe and inclusive space for social connection.
• Allow people to use their skills, and as appropriate to develop skills, and to enjoy social contact.
• Provide a space for cross generational contact.
The Coffee Shop has now been operating in Cadder Church South Hall for more than 25 years.
Cadder Coffee Shop operates with one paid employee, the Manager, and is otherwise staffed entirely by
volunteers who are mainly retired ladies who are members of Cadder and other Bishopbriggs churches as
well as a significant number of volunteers who have no church connection. There are a few male
volunteers and few younger ladies also volunteer.
The requirement for volunteers covers all aspects of staffing - food prep and cooks, bakers, servers,
dishwashers and cashiers.
The Coffee Shop’s normal opening hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to 2pm and
Friday from 10am to noon. In addition to tea, and coffee a large selection of baking is served with lunches
served on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The customer base covers the entire community and ranges from retired ladies and gentlemen and
couples, to pre nursery children and their parents who attend the Messy Play activity in the adjacent hall.
Many of the people who attend, as well as à number of the volunteers, are widowed and the Coffee Shop
provides an interest and a very important space for social contact. The same applies to young mothers and
fathers who come in regularly for lunch.
In recent years the Coffee Shop has been invited to support the Community Day and Christmas Light
Switch-on events promoted by Bishopbriggs Community Council, when very large numbers of
Bishopbriggs residents have enjoyed activities arranged by the Coffee Shop as well the drinks and snacks.
(Unfortunately we are unable to participate in the Christmas event last year due a clash with other
commitments. We may not be able to participate again this year due to lack of support to organise the
event).
