Children’s Activity Leader (Lewis)

Role Purpose
To support and lead library-based activities for children and families, helping to deliver safe, engaging, and inclusive experiences that encourage reading, creativity, and enjoyment of libraries.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan and deliver age-appropriate children’s activities under the guidance of library staff
• Support children to participate safely and confidently
• Help set up and clear away activity materials
• Promote positive behaviour and inclusion
Skills and Attributes
• Enjoy working with children
• Reliable, patient, and approachable
• Good communication skills
Safeguarding and Child Protection
• Always follow Comhairle nan Eilean Siar safeguarding procedures
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with children and families
• Never be left in sole charge of children
• Immediately report any safeguarding concern, disclosure, or incident to library staff
• Adhere to procedures for unaccompanied children
Training details
The volunteer will liaise with a nominated member of staff at their local library, who will guide them through their induction, and will be the first point of contact for any issues, questions, or problems should they arise.
Restrictions Minimum age: 17
PVG and Recruitment
• This role involves regulated work with children
• PVG Scheme membership is required
• Willingness to undertake safeguarding training

• Good communication skills
