Volunteer IT Support Tutor

SSCC Falkirk is seeking an additional Volunteer IT Tutor to help support our over-50 learners with computing devices and to extend their knowledge of what can be achieved with the available technology.

Skills and Attitudes

Volunteer tutors should have practical experience in one or more of: Using laptops, iPad / Android tablets and smartphones; Windows operating systems and applications; Mobile device applications; Using email and browsers; Social media; Security / keeping safe online; Digital photography.


Volunteers should have good communication skills and be able to demonstrate patience and empathy with learner members, and commitment to their role as a volunteer tutor. Due to the nature of our service and the importance of consistency for our older learners volunteers must be able to commit to regular attendance at the Club, and to notify others at the Club in advance if they will be unable to attend, for example for illness, holidays or other commitments.


Duties


The duties of club volunteer tutors are:
• Help to set up and take down furniture / equipment at the meeting venue
• Provide advice and support to learner members with technical problems and questions.
• Suggest to learner members other uses of their computers that may help them; give guidance to help members to use this correctly if required.


Infectious Disease Policy
• Hand hygiene measures should be observed using sanitizing gels provided or members’ own;
• Tables and other touch point and surface areas shall be cleaned prior to and after use;
• Social distancing measures are not mandated but members may choose to do so if they wish, with the Club Leader ensuring the room is not overcrowded;
• The room should be well ventilated.
SSCC will endeavour to assure the safety of members, however attendance is at member’s own risk.


Experience required

Volunteers Tutors should be able to support our learners in one or more of the following:

Leishman Tower - Community Room, Seaton Place, Falkirk, FK1 1TP (Wednesday)
Belmont Tower - Community Room, Eastburn Dr, Falkirk FK1 1TS (Friday)

Travel expenses

Bus fare/standard class rail fare or mileage at 25p per mile can be reimbursed.

Training details

The Club Leader will provide an introduction and briefing on the Volunteer Tutor’s role and the running of the club. The Club Leader can be consulted for any queries or concerns regarding volunteering, or if any additional support is needed.

The Falkirk Club is held on a Wednesday and Friday from 10am - 12pm.

Volunteers (aged 16-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
