Young Parent Peer Support Mentor

Are you a young parent in the Dunbar area?

We are looking for two young parents peer support mentors for our weekly young parents support group in Dunbar, providing support to parents aged 26 and under. We know how hard it can be being a parent and not everyone has support. Our young parents group offers a safe space to meet other like-minded parents, gain confidence and socialise. Creating a judgment and stigma-free community for young parents.

Our young parents peer support mentors will support young parents at our weekly group by chatting, listening and empowering young parents. Providing emotional support and parenting information in a non judgemental and caring environment.

Some of our parents are facing challenges such as mental health, isolation or neurodiversity.

Our aim is for parents/carers to feel supported in their parenting journey, confident, included and heard. Our service is confidential.

Additional duties can include helping set up and tidy up at the group, activities with parents or children.

Our peer support group offers practical and emotional support from trained volunteer peer supporters with lived experience.

Our volunteers have said that it gives them a purpose, helped their confidence and supported their own wellbeing. Some volunteers have gone onto other volunteering, training or employment and we have supported them with this.

Based in Dunbar on Tuesdays 12.30 - 2.30pm

We would like to have regular peer support mentors as young parents often feel judged.
Having a friendly face each week can help parents feel comfortable coming along to the group. However we know how difficult it can be to commit to a weekly group. We would prefer if you can help us fortnightly, we understand that this isn't always possible.
