Newspaper Reader - South Ayrshire

We are building a brand-new South Ayrshire team to bring the talking newspaper to blind, visually impaired and print-impaired people - and those with mobility issues - right across South Ayrshire. Each weekly edition must be recorded, edited and posted via freepost on the same day the local newspaper is released (e.g. every Wednesday), so our listeners get their news at the same time as everyone else.
Purpose of the role
Our readers are the voices our listeners know and love. Working with the South Ayrshire Producer, two readers cover the week's local newspaper stories for each edition — recorded, edited and posted the very same day the paper comes out.
What you'll do
• Read a selection of the week's local news stories, clearly and warmly, as directed by the Producer.
• Be available reliably each week on publication day for recording.
• Help review the running order and flag any stories that need care or sensitivity.
What We Offer Our Volunteers
• A warm welcome and a full induction to the charity and your role.
• Training and ongoing support
How to Apply
Applying couldn't be simpler — there's no formal application form. Just get in touch and tell us a little about yourself, which area you're in (East, South or North Ayrshire), and which role (or roles) interest you. We'll invite you along for an informal chat, with no obligation on either side.
