Community Outreach Volunteer - South Ayrshire

We are building a brand-new South Ayrshire team to bring the talking newspaper to blind, visually impaired and print-impaired people - and those with mobility issues - right across South Ayrshire. Each weekly edition must be recorded, edited and posted via freepost on the same day the local newspaper is released (e.g. every Wednesday), so our listeners get their news at the same time as everyone else.
Purpose of the role
Outreach works — our listener base doubled after volunteers visited local groups in person. This role builds relationships with sight loss groups, care providers, opticians, libraries and health services across South Ayrshire, signing up new listeners — including people with mobility issues who find it hard to get out — and spreading the word.
What you'll do
• Visit and present to community groups, sight loss clubs, care homes and day centres.
• Build relationships with opticians, GP surgeries, libraries and the sensory impairment team. Sign up new listeners and help them get started with their weekly editions.
• Represent ARSB at South Ayrshire community events, galas and information days.
What We Offer Our Volunteers
• A warm welcome and a full induction to the charity and your role.
• Training and ongoing support
How to Apply
Applying couldn't be simpler — there's no formal application form. Just get in touch and tell us a little about yourself, which area you're in (East, South or North Ayrshire), and which role (or roles) interest you. We'll invite you along for an informal chat, with no obligation on either side.
